“I think being a Latina gave me purpose” said Adrienne Bailon.

Bailon hosted a Facebook chat last week as part of Orgullosa’s Hispanic Heritage celebration. She loves being bicultural (dad is from Peru – Mom is from Puerto Rico), she loves being Latina and she loves having her family by her side.

“Having my family by my side is one of the most important things for my success,” commented the actress and singer.

Bailon took the time to sing “Como la Flor” from Selena, who she said is one of her inspirations.

Inspiration that has helped her build confidence.

“As a Latina we all go thru things that make us feel insure,” said Bailon. “Building confidence and character is the key.”

Bailon is so proud of her culture, history, and of course the latino food. She loves to eat “empanadillas” (Tunovers from Puerto Rico).

Now Orgullosa celebrates and recognizes these bicultural Latinas – like Adrienne Bailon- who are proud of their culture, history and unique experience. Whether they are a mother, daughter, student or professional, the Orgullosa community is made up of go getters taking on multiple roles day in-and-day –out.

Latinas of today are shaping the future. It is really important to encourage one another.

Being a Latina of today has molded me exactly who I am, how I think, my thought process, my desires, my whole essence. Being a Latina has influenced what I read, how I read it, what I eat, how I eat it, what I listed to, how I dress… everything…”

We are building a sisterhood, we are building a great community… we are becoming a society.

To honor my Heritage I  created this (picture below) with the new Orgullosa Heritage app – it’s easy, show your pride!  You can make one here.
